Life's Moments

The idea for the name Barefoot Grace sprang from a walk along the shore of a beach in North Carolina. As I meandered through the sand, my gaze was captured by the diverse sets of footprints parallel to one another along the shore. Though the rising ocean tide would eventually take away the footprints, the walk itself, and the memory of it, would remain with those who had journeyed together. The parent and child, friends, lovers, or strangers who chose to keep the same pace and enjoy one another’s company, are altered by the time spent together at the edge of the water. Through sharing the scenery, stories, and the sensation of bare feet in sand and saltwater, journeying souls are transformed.

 

Barefoot Grace is my attempt to capture the essence of what it means to have someone walk beside you barefoot as the tide comes in. Walking with bare feet means you are vulnerable to shell shards, hot sand, and marine debris. And it also means feeling the sand and water, connecting with the stuff of which we humans are made, in a way that’s impossible with shoes on. Sharing the walk with another barefoot person means you also share the hazards; and, in the togetherness in the same terrain, there is grace.

 

Weddings, funerals, retreats, and other life celebrations and services are important ways to mark the moments of our lives, to acknowledge the hardships and the beauty. With every service, celebration, and retreat I facilitate, I seek to bring together the elements of the journey completed, the present experience, and an envisioned future.

 

It’s my goal with each service, celebration, or retreat I officiate or lead to create an encounter with the divine – including the divine beings we walk with each day. I will work with you to create a service or retreat that represents you, your relationships, how you show up in this world and what you want the world to know about you.
